Sticking with i7 920 for one more year. Smart Idea?

So I'm wanting to do upgrades to my current gaming PC and the key components to upgrade are my GPU which is a GTX 460 768MB. I'm looking to get a GTX 770 2GB an SSD and OC my CPU with an air cooler. My goal is to ensure that my PC remains viable at least until Haswell-E or Skylake launches, at which point I"ll do a full Mobo/CPU/RAM upgrade. So I hope all in all its a good investment.

Since good gaming depends more on the graphics card than the cpu, I think a GTX770 upgrade is a good idea, and a nice improvement.
i7-920 can be given a modest oc without much trouble.

Few games use more than 2-3 cores so a 6 core Haswell-E is not likely to be a big improvement.

If, after the gpu upgrade, you feel that you are cpu limited, then I would go ahead and upgrade to a 4670K. That should be sufficient to run any graphics configuration you might have in the future.
