Ok this seemed really interesting, i generally dont watch the vids as it all goes through one ear and out the other, and tends to be more marketing hype than anything.

But this got my attention, as i play Oblivion, Skyrim and Total War, which all use large amounts of Vram (Skyrim especially when modded)
Watch the Vid :)

Aslong as you have enough Ram, and it's fast enough, would this remove the vram bottleneck, when playing fully modded games like Skyrim @ 4Gb worth of texture mods?
Allowing you to play it on say 2GB Vram instead?

I know that right there sounds to good to be true, but damn if it does, it might solve a lot of problems for those on a budget.
And would make 16Gb of Ram far more worthwhile :D

Whats your thoughts?

Solution
Nice as it sounds, the Vram on the graphics card is going to be faster than system memory.

At some point you would have a bottle neck if using system memory as a texture cache.

If it works like the way i understood it, yeah it would. The only problem would be the speed between swapping back and forth between vram and onboard Ram.

I have a 1Gb card running at 1920x1200 , after about 5-10mins play Oblivion will freeze (Heavily modded) as it passes the 1GB marker, swapping even 512mb of the memory stored on the vram to the Ram on my system would probably give me enough room to play it without problems.

Aslong as the swapping doesnt freeze it..

Maybe i understood it wrong, maybe it doesn't work like that, wouldnt be surprised if it didnt. But if it does, it's a boom for gamers like me..

Otherwise in essence that update is a load of BS

Yea i figured the speed at which it swapped would be the main concern. Was hoping for some who knows the in's and outs of that kinda stuff to give me a little more clarity :D

Although even a few second freeze as it swaps in and out every so often, wouldnt be so bad, aslong as you could play it.

Without it crashing back to the desktop
