Hi, i have an i7 920@ 2.67ghz and 6,0gb ram. Sometimes and specially when i shutdown my computer, on the next day, the computer crashes 1-2 times, and then it never crashes again. Its rly annoying, i tried to run memtests at the Memory and the program always stops working at some point of the test. i have run S&M and mem test from hirens boot cd. I dont know what to do anymore. Can it be something with voltages or a problem with the slot\memory dimm itself? thanks

Solution
That means you have 6 slots and 3 sticks. Test 1 stick in all 6 slots. Run memtest 3 times for every configuration. If you don't pass memtest then note down the stick and the slot. Take 2nd stick and repeat. If 1 stick fails in 2 or more slots - then its a faulty stick. If a 2 or 3 sticks fail in the same slot, then it is more likely to be a lost problem (the probability of 2 faulty sticks is lower). If 3 sticks fail in the same slot but work in all others - it's a slot problem. When you complete your test and are still confused - write again. We will try to provide further guidance.

If memtest crashes then it is a good chance that is the problem. Try removing all RAM sticks, put 1 in 1 slot and then run the test again. Run for 3 times, then change slot. After you tested all 3 sticks in all slots note which one fail and which don't. It is possible that a certain stick is giving a problem, or a certain slot is malfunctioning. If you tell us the motherboard model, it will be easier for us to give you more information.

Im sorry, my bad that i forgot the motherboard model, its an Asus Rampage II Extreme. I will try testing each one of the sticks in each slot to check either cases

My DRAM is Corsair dominator 2048MB 1600Mhz 1.65V TR3X6G1600C8D. I have made some tests but didnt finish all of them, The DRAM only works in slot 1,3,5 (blue ones) 2,4,6(yellow ones) they dont work, tried them one by one.

By the tests i made until now:

Slot #1 - Dim1 Dim 2 and Dim 3, all of them had no errors and passed tests.
Slot #3 - Dim 1 Dim 2 work fine and pass tests, Dim 3 boots but didnt made tests yet.
Slot #5 - Dim 1 Works fine and pass tests, Dim 2 and 3 - both boot but didnt made tests yet

Bios last update was 2101, 19/09/2011 which is the latest version according to asus support.

I have to try those parameters, i dont know nothing about what u said but can give it a go.. i have taken a look before and everything is set on Auto

Okay 1600, go in slots 1-3-5, Enable XMP, select Profile 1, then find DRAM Voltage set to 1.65 manually (type it in even if it currently shows 1.65), Also look for the QPIVTT voltage setting and raise it about + 0.05....With your sticks we don't have a lot of play in DRAM voltage as they are already 1.65

Im a bit noob in terms of BIOS. i went to check it out some of it and i didnt see much of those settings about xmp. i will tell you what i wrote about the settings to see if u please can help me.
Voltage monitor:
QPI \ DRAM core voltage - 1.197V
DRAM BUS VOLTAGE - it varies from 1488 to 1508 but it stays most of the time 1501V

Then i can change QPI, DRAM Core voltage. its set to AUTO and it can be set manually 1.20000V as min value and 2.50000V as max value. Standard value is 1.20000. Increment is 0.00625

Does this help in anything? Im gonna try and look for those settings again

Well, i will try and have these settings for some more time to see if it worked or not,it wont hurt i guess , i have run another test, this time with S&M Stress Tests and the memory didnt crash the program which previously did. I might have been assuming that its a problem of memory but i might be mistaken aswell. I have seen no blue screen logs on c:\minidump or anything, but the behaviour of the pc of crashing just one time in the first time of use of the day is just strange.

But if the battery was empty wouldnt i lose the bios setting including system time?
Well, to update the post, im receiving some blue screens. One of them was today and the file didnt go to minidump, it got stuck on dumping the blue screen. But i managed to take a picture of it with my phone. The other blue screen was yesterday and it was related to the following:

Yesterday BSOD:
Bug Check String DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Bug Check Code 0x000000d1
Caused by driver: volsnap.sys
Caused by address: volsnap.sys+5185
crash address: ntoskrnl.exe+75c00
--------------------------------
Today BSOD:

I hope someone can help, both of them are so different BSOD's :(

Okay, so everything was fine until today, I turned my pc on after a long day of work, it crashed. BSOD again, with Driver IRQL not less or equal error. I had my pc reboot and then it would say, bootmgr was corrupt. reboot again, then it said Disk error. Finally on the fourth boot The windows started and here iam typing again. Do you think it could be a disk problem rather than memory?

Hello again ppl,
Been some time since last problems. Well i guess im getting used to these crashes...
My pc has been having same problems, sometimes i get CPU temperature warnings, and sometimes some random blue screens. I was wondering about the temperatures but i dont know the ideal temperatures for the components.
I'm gonna post some info about hardware that i took from Pcwizard 2012 to see if someone has an idea to share what the issues could be.

Edit: When im ingame the temperature of the cores go up to 87C is this normal?
