Who can make the cheapest PC build?? The only requirement is 2gb of ddr3 ram, and you have to include Windows in your build. Ok so make the cheapest possible. Go!!

JRAtk94,

I appreciate the kind words- the names are the most fun! I'd done so many computer configurations on these forums that I started naming them and keeping a file in order of cost. The "product line" now ranges from $280 to $884,700 < yes and I quickly found a way to make that system about $50,000 more expensive. The $884,700 system is a gaming system, but most of these are various kinds of imaging and scientific workstations. I'll be doing a more complete gaming series next.

This was a useful exercise as it starts to show that about $400 is the price point where a quite good system starts. For about $50 more, the AMD quad cores start being an option and that would be the next jump.

Something I'd missed earlier are package deals like this from Newegg >

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1241779

AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz Quad-Core APU (CPU+GPU) with Radeon HD 7660D, MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 A75 HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Motherboard, CORSAIR 4GB DDR3 1333 Memory & Rosewill MicroATX Case with 300W Power Supply
Doesn't Suck! Save Big on AMD A10-5800K Trinity SuperCombo!

In stock. Limit 5 per customer.
Was: $289.96
Now: $254.99

Which has a quad core @ 3.8GHz, 4GB RAM and so on. The case is a cringer, but that's as the bird said > cheap, cheap , cheap! Too bad we're limited to only buying 5,...

Cheers,
