So today I was sending my motherboard back because it wasn't working and I go to the bathroom to find that my girlfriend removed my cpu and placed it face down on a hardwood table. She placed the side down with the thermal paste. THANKFULLY she didn't set it down normally. Is my cpu possibly damaged from this or am I just making a bigger deal about it then necessary.

I think it should be fine. Just use some thermal grease remover. As long as a pins didn't get greasy fingered I would think it should be fine. I mean think about it. The CPU cooler is usually screwed onto the CPU pretty damn tight.

It is better placing it that way then with the gold contact of the CPU. But nevertheless, dust and all other stuff could be in contact with your CPU and there would be a chance that it won't work. To keep it short, the chances of it not working are highly unlikely but there still is a chance.
