Hello,

I'm new to this site but I needed info and didn't know where to go.

I just made my first build almost two weeks ago and everything was running fine until today. We've had some storms move through not too long ago and it caused the power to go out for a bit. my computer was plugged into the wall no surge protector (had one but recently failed) but when the power came back it was working fine. about 2 hours after the outage I was playing some Old school RuneScape and listening to music on Last.fm when out of nowhere a loud pop came from my build. It started to restart but I rushed to switch off the psu and unplug it. I checked inside and nothing seemed to gone wrong. no visible damage, marks or anything out of the ordinary. Took out GPU, nothing blown. I then rebooted my computer. Its been on 'bout 25 mins since posting this thread, and everything is working fine still.

The only thing I didn't check was inside the psu. Could this be the problem? Will this popping happen again?

Here are my parts:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU: Asus HD 7770
PSU: Corsair CX600
MB: msi 970A-G46
RAM:Corsair Vengeance 8gb DDR3-1600

Solution
maybe it was the PS?

Over-voltage and over-power protection, under-voltage protection, and short circuit protection provide maximum safety to your critical system components

Well, I honestly dunno what caused the pop, no capacitors are blown on the GPU or mother board, I don't want to void the warranty on the psu so if it's that then I guess I'll leave it alone till it blows.

Nothing overheated at all, I have core temp installed and its running at normal temp.

'Bout 6 years ago I had a Compaq Presario's psu blow after a loud pop and that was caused by a (literal) bug. Maybe a bug found its way into the psu and popped but this time did no damage?
