I'm playing minecraft at about 300-400 fps on the max graphic settings, and when i start recording on fraps, the fps drops down to about 10-20. Why is this?

My setup:
i7 3770k
7870 Ghz Ed.
1000 watt psu
24 GB g.skill ram

... Help!

Solution
FRAPS use a lot of ressources, the lag is mainly because the HDD you're recording on is too slow to take full frame at full speed (aka FPS) it can only record 10-20 fps so the max fps is decided by that...

For solution, i can suggest to reduce quality (i use half-size) and fps to 30 stable so it'll not put as much load on the HDD (that work for me so i expect that to work for you too)

You can also change the recording device to a SSD or a ramdisk as you have 24gb of ram, that would be helpful if you want some 1080p+ footage
