Ok so my original PC died and I am borrowing a friend's PC. I was able to reformat it to Win 7. It's a Compaq SR1475CL. Has a AMD Mobo and a ATI Radeon GPU. In my device manager it says "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" under the "Display Adapters". I did install drivers for the graphics card but it still says "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". I even went into BIOS and changed it from AGP to PCI. That didn't do anything. How do I get it to read the ATI Radeon graphics card and not the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"? Thank you in advance. I will provide more information if needed.

Right click on where it says "standard VGA adapter" and press update driver and search online. Report back what it says, and also what Is the graphics card?

It says "Windows has determined your driver software for your device is up to date". "Standard Graphics Adapter". The graphics card is a AMD/ATI Radeon. Graphics Hardware: 0x1002 - 0x9596 AGP. It's one of the 3 AMD Radeon HD 2xxx, 3xxx, 4xxx.

In Device manager try to right click the Standard VGA... then select Update driver and point to the folder that contains the ATI driver.
Already answered.

Just tried it. Still tells me " The best software for your driver is already installed". "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date".

Unfortunately since the graphics card is old, it doesn't exactly have a print of what the name is besides that it's a AMD. PN:3650512AGP. 512mb, RV635.

Is it worth the issue then? I would consider upgrading.

I think that it displays "standard ATI" because that's how they updated windows. The older ATI graphics cards are standard and are used in companies that use designing software and CAD

I would say it is. Before I reformatted from xp to 7, it was able to play Fallout New Vegas. PC was horribly slow though due to so many programs so I formatted it. It's kind of a problem I would like a solution to since this PC actually has a graphics card as opposed to my original 6yr old PC that had a intergrated nVidia and this PC can't play even a mediocre game since it's using the "Standard VGA graphics Adapter" but my old PC could. Besides, no point in upgrading to a better GPU on a old mobo. Not like I could anyways.

Take out your graphics card and delete the ATI drivers (correctly) and re-insert it and download it by having it search for drivers. Btw, the product code on the graphics card.. look it up. You can find out what it is

I did a fresh reinstall of Win 7, redownloaded the catalyst from DEVid. Works perfectly now. I resolved my own issue. Thanks anyways guys.
