I have constant crashes. Simple as that. All kinds of crashes. BSOD, computer restarting, computer freezing. Everything. I've tried other forums but to no avail. This is my last attempt. It's going out the window if you can't help me. Just tell me what you need to know and tell me what to do please.

Solution
Hi, the BSOD indicates that a memory access violation occurred.
Check your computer for any possible overheating (may be because of some overclocking). Aslo, check for dust or any possible damages of electonic components (generally capacitors are damaged).
Best regards.
Post yoUr hardware info. When you debug a pc take it a step at a time.
1. Check that your motherboard bios has all the updates flashed onto it. Some new mb can be months old out of the wear house and are missing needed updates.
2. Run memtest86 see if you have a bad dimm. If there a failure take out half your ram to see whitch dimm has the error. If there no errors try using one dimm in the main dimm slot.
3. Low wattage or low cost power supply's can cause bsod with low atx power or ac ripple. If you can ask a friend for a spare power supply for testing.
4. If your running an Ssd make sure the newest firmware is on it.
Run hdtune on your drives look for any smart warnings.
Also run vendor test tool on your drives.

Thanks for the quick replies lads. I'm not at my PC right now but will be in an hour or so. In the mean time, smorizio, how do I check that the updates are flashed on my motherboard? I think I've done the Memtest test before and the whole removal of RAM thing. I'll run Memtest for starters anyway.

I'll see what I can do about the power supply at the weekend.

How do I check the firmware for my hard drive?

I'll run hdtune and vendor test tool and see what happens.

Ok, so this is information on my hardware. I hope it's enough:

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Name SHANE
System Manufacturer System manufacturer
System Model P5K SE

SMBIOS Version 2.4
Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS
System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32
Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1
Locale Ireland
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111)"
User Name SHANE\Shane Corcoran
Time Zone GMT Daylight Time
Total Physical Memory 2,048.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 739.67 MB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB

Page File C:\pagefile.sys

From asus web page the last bios for the p5k se mb is 1402. On the main bios screen will be the bios rev that on your mb now. Run Cpuz look under memory info tab. The p35 mb had issues with ram faster then 800 speed.
The ram won't fail memtest but it damage and blue screen. If your ram is 1066 ram see if a friend has a stick of 800 ddr2.

Wouldn't you know it, I was just about to finish a substantial post when my PC crashed. So an abridged version this time. Memtest threw up an error in one of the four tests I ran. I can post the details if it's worth while. Please let me know.
I know you both posted quite a bit of information. I haven't tried a different stick of RAM or a new Power Supply as I was concentrating on the Memtest over the last few days. What next?

Lads, I'm now having multiple crashes. All but one of them involve the computer freezing and, as I was playing music on Windows Media Player at the time, a crackling sound from the music stopping.
The one other time was a BSOD. The error it gave was as follows:

STOP: 0X0000008E (OXC0000005, 0XB9E748BE, OXB6C5A960, 0X00000000)

If there's some other way I can post up crash details please let me know.

Sorry, you're going to have to treat me like more of a novice than that. Can you explain like I'm a fiver year old?

Edit: I've just had a different type of crash. No blue screen, no freezing of the screen, just a simple restart. Is there some way I can post the crash details up here? Could you let me know what you meant by the analogios motherboard?

The lack of replies forthcoming is adding to the frustration. One more try before it goes out the window. I got another BSOD. 0X0000001A (0X00041284, 0X0F06B001, 0X00001922, 0XC0883000)
