Corsair AF vs SP fans

I'm building another rig and been confused about Corsair fans as there are so many different versions.

My case is Corsair 350D, and my cooling is H100i. So basically, I need to buy 5 120mm fans total. Two for radiators of H100i, and 1 rear fan, and two front intake fans.

My question is which fan should I buy for front, radiator, and rear.

I'm confused with:

SP 120 Quiet, High Static Pressure
SP 120 PWM Quiet, High Static Pressure
SP 120 PWM High Performance, High Static Pressure
SP 120 High Performance, High Static Pressure
AF 120 Quiet, High Airflow

Which one of these should I buy???

Appreciated any input

Far as I know, there are SP120's and AF120's, not derivatives of both.

SP stands for Static Pressure, which is basically how hard the fan pushes the air, which is what you want on a heatsink/radiator as there is an obstruction to airflow. AF stands for Airflow, which means it has a high CFM rating, which refers to the volume of air moved per minute in a free-flow environment (no resistance to air flow).

But in a nutshell, put the SP120's on your H100i, AF120's on the case.
Though the H100i comes with OEM versions of the SP120's, only difference is the colour and lack of rubber mounts.

As far as I know, PWM fans are controllable, so where can I control them (radiator fans)? Is it necessary to have PWM fans?

And, which one would you recommend?

Thanks for the help.

PWM is a method of controlling fan speed, you would still be able to have them controlled through voltage. Its not necessary IMO, but if it supports it then its a nice feature.
Depends on how you ste up your fans as to what controls them. I believe you plug them into the pump/CPU blocka nd you should be able to control them through the Corsair Link software. Or if you plug them straight to the mobo, you can control them in the BIOS or some program like Speedfan.

Different fans for different purposes. SP's for the rad and AF's for the case.

So I wil be buying 2 140mm Quiet Ed. fans as front intake. What about rear exhaust fan? Should I buy 120mm Performance or Quiet as 140mm fan only has the option of quiet edition?

As for the radiator fans, I will be buying SP 120 then. So which one should I buy? I definitely want my rig to be as silent as possible, but I also don't want to lose any cooling performance if I chose to go for Quiet edition. The motherboard I will be buying is Maximus VI Gene, so I'd be better off buying PWM fans? Am I right?

And final question about connecting them. Most likely I will connect radiator fans to H100i pump block. What about case fans? Where should I connect them to? MOBO or is there a specific connector I need to purchase?

Thank you for answering all the question. I messed up fan connections in my first build. :D

Hi and sorry for joining so late.

My problem is that I recently installed to SP120 Quiet Edition PWM fans to my H100i and I am unable to control them from my Corsair Link software. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, only the noisy stock fans are compatible with Corsair link, any others will struggle.

Hello, i know this post was a while ago but i yave one question, would you set the h100i sp 120s as intake or exhaust?

At the minute i have it set to intake and i have too many intakes, 2 120mm and 2 140mm and only one 140 exhaust, is there much performanace difference in setting the radiator fans to exhaust?

I was planning on 2 af140 intakes at the front, 1 af140 exhaust at the rear and then the two sp120 exhausts for the h100i radiator. Do you think this would be ok?

Thanks, i appreciate your time

Ok thanks for reply much appreciated, why did you choose a sp fan for rear exhaust! Would af not be better?

Come to think of it. The rear 120 may be AF. No time to check now though. AF would be the right option for rear exhaust.
