Hi All,

I'm looking to update my computer to play BF4, and I'm trying to see whether or not it's more cost effective to upgrade, or to simply buy a new computer.

Here's what I'm using now:

Intel Core2 Q9950 @ 2.83 GHz
5GB RAM (not sure how to find out speed/type)
x2 Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+, SLI
Motherboard is ASUS nForce 750i SLI MCP

Tower I'm using is the Cosmos S with 750w power supply, so I have space for upgrades.

From looking at the recommended system requirements for BF4, it looks like I need to switch out my RAM, GPU, and processor. Is this feasible with my current motherboard, or would I need/want to upgrade that, too?

Also, would it be a good idea to buy a SSD to install the game onto, for faster loading?

I'd love to hear the community's thoughts and recommendations. I've done some basic hardware replacement in the past. I'm not opposed to getting my hands dirty, but I am very new at this.

Thanks,

Mildlygifted.

BF4 Recommended system requirements:
The recommended PC system requirements for optimal visual quality and frame rates:
Quad core CPU (Intel Core i5 or i7) at 3 Ghz
4 GB memory (8 GB for 64-bit operating systems)
A modern DX11 graphics card with 1 GB of video memory, GeForce 600 series or Radeon 7000 series
Windows 7 64-bit operating system
20+ GB of free harddrive space

Solution
Try overclocking your CPU as hard as possible, Q9950 is still a powerful quad-core CPU today. Gotta get a cooler and OC it. If u change your CPU to i5/i7, u should also change your mobo and u should cost not less than $300.

Graphic card may be a little bit out of date and consume a lot of power. DO you have a 8-pin power connector and a 6-pin one? 'Cause HD 6970 (The last-gen flagship) is selling with a very good price and u could consider it. Only $160 at newegg USA.

SSD is a good idea too for faster loading speed.

If anyone could convince me that i5/i7 CPU could bring a significance improvement pls point out.

First, thank you for the quick response!

It looks like all of the 6 pins in both of my GPUs have the extra 2 pins available, so I have 4 6/8 pin connectors available. So you think I could ditch the 2 9800s for a 6970? Also, I'm not opposed to spending around $5-600 on the entire upgrade, before SSD, and RAM is pretty cheap, right?

I have a pretty good cooler on the processor that's in, so it's just a matter of overclocking it. I'm sure I can figure that out after quick 'google' of it.

Hmm, I chose HD 6970 because it is a DX11 card. IF u want more gaming power, purchase two HD 6970s and crossfire them. I wonder if your PSU could handle them 'cause TDP of each 6970 would be 250W. (500W for crossfiring.)

That would be a lot of power. I'll look into that, and if anyone reading this post has any experience with crossfiring that card, I'd love to hear it. Thanks for the suggestion.

i wouldnt trust that powersupply with crossfiring since ive never heard of that brand.

well thats your case name haha what psu do you have
