Computer was very slow yesterday so I turned off power after it did not respond to restart command. Now will not boot. loads files and eventually goes to restore to original settings page. Diagnostics shows only surface test failure on hard drive. Machine is old but would like to restore if possible. Any help appreciated as i am worried about losing content of hard drive. TIA

Solution
Get another hard-drive, install Windows on that, install the original drive as a secondary and copy the files overd. If you are worried about losing data (if you have no backups), do not keep messing with the drive, the more you try to work with it, the greater chance you have of it failing totally.
