This has been going on for a month now and I was trying to ignore it but now I am totally pissed and I want to fix it. :D  It is coming from my mobo I think, somewhere near the CPU. It isnt constant. It stops when I am not using my computer and when its under heavy load(not 100%sure). I have a corsair GS 600W psu with an asrock p67extreme4gen3 and an i5 2500k. Also I just noticed that my psu light is getting darker in tact with the sounds. I will try to upload a video in youtube and post it here.

I just uploaded the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIZUdUGX3aE&feature=yout... . What would you suggest doing in order to fix it?

P.S The voltage in my house isnt really constant but I have the computer hooked up to an UPS and a device that is supposed to compensate the voltage difference and make it constant so I dont think that is the problem.

Sounds like the bearing on a fan has failed. If you think it is coming from near the CPU, you really need to check if that is the problem.

How old are the fans in the system and how many hours per day do you run it?

Cheap fans are usually rated at about 10,000 hours (about a year) More expensive fans are rated at 50,000 hours (though fans can still fail at anytime)

I bought some new fans yesterday and the only old one is the one on the cpu heatsink. I will check if thats the reason. I read about hard drive noises and i realised it may be the HDD. I am using a Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM one. http://www.datacent.com/datarecovery/hdd/seagate You can play the sweeping noise it sounds like mine.

It's not that pop you're talking about is it?... the other sound I hear is fan vibration... it sounds to me like a case fan that's losely fitted to the case.

In any fan, if it's speed is controlled by the BIOS, the vibration sound would increase as it revvs up higher as the CPU temp increases.

I turned off all fans and listened carefully and it comes from the PSU. In the video there is a lot of background noise, try increasing the volume to the max and listen carefully at the end(its the loudest part) the noise isnt permanent, it has little pauses. Here is a better video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjC2YTUsNVg

Well, if you're sure it's the PSU, the only moving part in it (that I know of) is the fan, so the obvious solution is a replacement of the PSU or of the fan, depending on the warranty status.

I can replace the whole PSU with a new one since its still in warranty, but is there any other way to fix it because
I dont want to wait so long

does anyone know how to fix it without replacing the whole unit?

Another possibility is that the PSU may not be fixed tight enough to the case, and the fan looks large enough that it can cause the level of vibration to make the noise. Check that, and if it’s not the problem, maybe you can buy a cheap PSU to power your PC while you wait for the GS 600 replacement.
