hi guys!!

recently i checked out this cpu benchmarking web
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/

and i have a phenom ii 555 unlocked to B65 prossesor (with a little OC on HT link and clock), is the best one of all phenom x4 and supose to be better tahn some first gen i7 (i think those i7 and i5 are laptop prossesors) and third gen i3 (Intel Core i3-3245 @ 3.40GHz)... i mean, really??

does this web is dependable??

i use cpu for heavy task few times but i really give a damn if my phenom takes some second more to do render (ok even minutes), but i want some good processor yet reliable for today games, and the near next gen games without having a bad performance cose a weak CPU

i also use a HD 7770 GPU, right now ussing a 768p monitor :p
and a defective HDD (i think a WD refurbished with less cache or something) i think is less faster than a real sata II HDD, some times it dealys a lot while loading webs which i registred like this one, i dont know why... i think is the HDD

this thing does a great performance but even when the performance, F.E., in GTA IV (almost maxed out) is like 60 FPS overvall in the performances test, but sometimes it downs like 24FPS for a failure in the HDD i think (in other games 60 or 120 FPS are constant), or could it be my CPU??

SO... i could sell my actual rig before it turns old
and go for an i5 3330 or FX8320 or the better i3 (which is better for my purposes???) bassed rig and then go, after saving some bucks, for a GPU

or i could spend more money to improve my HDD and then sell my old one, and stay with my actual rig for some few years more

Looks like there are some bugs with the forum. Ignore my previous comment.

To answer your questions, you've got a lot of things wrong to start with:

1- Cpubenchmark.net is dependable but you would have to post exactly which benchmark you saw on this site. Sometimes they show the benchmark based on price/performance. So if you saw your Phenom-II in front of a i5 or i7 it's probably based on price/performance, and not pure performance because i5 and i7, even first generation are superior to Phenom-II.

2- That being said, Phenom-II aren't that bad, but you would need a quad-core version. Your 555 is far from being the best Phenom-II out there because it's only a X2 model (dual-core). You would need a Phenom-II X4 965 for example (quad-core) because more and more games are starting to take advantage of quad-cores.

3- I think you have a big misunderstanding of Intel CPUs. i5 and i7 aren't for laptops, they're for desktops too. And i3 aren't superior, they're the entry level. Even in the first generation, you could find i3, i5 and i7 in desktops and laptops all along. i3 is the entry level, i5 mid level, and i7 at the top. i3 are dual-cores only, for i5 and i7 you can find both dual-core and quad-core versions. The 4th generation of i3, i5 and i7 are out now.

4- The best CPU you can get to play games is probably an i5 quad-core. Of course i7 are superiors, but they cost more and the performance gain is minimal for gaming, this is why most gamers get the i5 quad-core it's a better bang for the bucks.

5- In your case, definitely replace the HDD if it caused you problems. If it's defective I don't think you can sell it though. If all your games are still playable you don't need to get a new rig now, but it's still something you should have in mind in the upcoming years. Or if you don't have the budget for a new rig, you could also upgrade your CPU to a Phenom-II X4.

Phenom is still a viable chip, but starting to show its age. With things like the FX4300, FX6300, and even the Athlon X4 760k, it begins to make less sense.

That said, you have a decent mid-range video card. If you feel that your hard drive is causing you problems, purchase an SSD or a fast 7200rpm hard drive and you will see much better performance in general computing and great load time reductions in games.

I do not believe you mentioned RAM, if you have 4GB or less consider upgrading to 8GB.

hi!!! thanks to all!!
i know about intel core prossesor, my brother has a wicked i5 2500k, ithink is better than the 3rd and 4rd gen i5... well not better just more powerful

MC_K7
also my phenom ii 555 is UNLOCKED to B65 X4 prossesor, stable at 1.45V with some OC as i have told, i think all cores works fine but i need a CM hyper tx3 to lower temps....

i'm from mexico i could buy my HDD as an only storage drive people will buy it if its a the right price just like me ):

trying to EDIT!!!!grrrrr!!!
one more time... i have 4GB dual chanel @ 1600 OC 1720... stable... i can upgrade any time but right now i think 4GB still nice for 90% of the games

.... i'm still thinking that the only amd prossesors that can beat the phenom II are the FX8xxx family, and i dont really know if the fx-x3xx series can beat the phenom II at single core ips.. but they are newer and its an octacore

if i sell my pc i could buy a regular core i5 3330 which is all the way better than my phenom.. but for that price maybe the fx 8320 would be a better option (and is also unlocked) and i think it has more future cose its multy trheading power

even as my mobo has the same socket i could upgrade... but sell a phenom ii could be a headache
