I have 2x2gb 1600mhz and 2x4gb 1600mhz sticks. They are all the same timings. My real question is, on this specific mobo, do i set the 1 4gb stick closest to the cpu then 1 2gb stick then the other 4gb stick then the 2nd 2gb stick? I want to run in dual channel(yes they are dual channel) do you always start with the largest stick closest to the cpu to let it run in dual channel? Dimm 1=4gb
Dimm 2=2gb Dimm 3=4gb dimm 4=2gb.
Will this work?

Solution
or theres that tab in the BIOS that shows you a picture of everything and a description when you run the mouse over stuff on the MOBOs picture.

No. it goes like this CPU 1 TWO 3 FOUR that manual has a picture. none of the youtube videos work. Thats for 2 sticks in Dual channel. The spelled numbers being the correct slots.

for 4 sticks like that I dont think you can run different sizes like that I thought they all had to be the same exact model, size and timings.

Yes, generally the largest module is installed in the first slot and sometimes in first channel / bank. Yes, that's the right way to install the memory. Refer the post by Tradesman1.

With all the slots filled, will this affect the way i can overclock my cpu? I heard the more slits filled the more stress on the memory controller, but i also have heard that newer cpus such as my 4770k don't have that problem anymore.

The Intel CPUs can handle it fine - the big thing is older, CPUs, AMD CPUs and the simple fact of why stress it if you don't have to, ideally instead of 12GB configured this way, you would go 16 in a 2x8GB, but you have to work with what you have, so we will ;)

So, 12 Gbs wont hurt? I would like to spend extra money on a gpu rather than a new set of ram sticks...

Will the problem be fairly obvious or detectable? I want to make sure the 4gb sticks are running in dual channel as well as the 2 gb sticks..Does the color coded slots rule apply for all mobos? Specifically the MSI z87 G45.
