Just bought a Zotac GTX 560 Ti on eBay and noticed the idle temperature was rather high. I was getting 55C idle, and it rapidly rose up to 75C-80C in gaming. I really would like to have this card for a long time, it will be at least several years before I will upgrade. So I downloaded MSI Afterburner and I changed the fan settings. I changed 44C to 65%, 55C to 75%, and 70C to 85%. Now my fan is much louder (doesn't really annoy me though), and my gaming temps reach a maxium of 60C.

My question is though, is it bad for GPU to keep the fan so high even at idle temperatures? My goal is to make my GPU last as long as possible.

Not bad, but the fan might wear out sooner. If the fan does die you can normally get a new fan to fit in the cooler for around $10 on ebay.

i think your fan profile is fine. my GTX460 fan still working fine after 2year+ with my fan profile (i put the max speed around 70%). some problem with auto fan control is the fan only rev up when the temp is already too high (this still depending how the manufacturer want to customize their own fan profile under auto). and high temperature are the very enemy of electronic component. broken fan can be replaced with after market cooler (or you can rig in some 80mm fans on it :D  ) but broken gpu will need you to replace the whole unit
