Hello guys,

I have a Dell Vostro 430 from a few years back (2009 - 2010). I thought the case was small and decided to t get a new case (Corsair 600T).
I just finished moving it, only having trouble with some of the jfp1 pins. I got the power ones to work and was going to fix the reset one in the morning.

I plugged in my mouse, keyboard, etc. and finally the monitors. I have a Samsung 22' and a Acer 17'.

Problem is that it won't show BIOS or anything, the Samsung light flashes usually means the screen is in like a sleep mode (that is my understanding from when i got it)

I hope i didn't confuse you guys, but I can't see anything on the screen but the computer is running. I see all the lights and fans on with no problems.

Graphics card is plugged in and i doubled check that the monitors were in correctly (also switched them)

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X Overclock Edition and it worked fine before.

What do you guys thing could be causing the problem with the monitors?

Thanks guys, Vanmarq

If you're referring to the JPWR2 header, yes. That needs to have a 4 pin cable (+12V and ground) supplied to it for powering the processor. There should be a cable with 4 wires that fed it when it was in the Dell case. Plug that cable back in the JPWR2 header.

And don't forget to power the HD 5770 with its own 4 pin PCIe power cable too.

I'm guessing I would have to take off the motherboard to check?

Yes, I'm afraid so. I sometimes happens that a standoff gets put in that isn't used due to the layout of the board. Just something to check if you didn't at the time of assembly. While the board is out, you could breadboard it sitting on an insulated surface (like the box it came in), and connect just CPU/cooler, RAM, PSU, monitor (and keyboard if desired). See if it can boot to BIOS by shorting the 2 pins the pwr sw. goes to.

No, just a serial port. I should have never got a Dell computer -_-
I'm going over everything and trying to make sure everything i did correctly.
I'm wondering if it the front panels that could be screwing it up. I just don't see how that would effect the video card :\

I'm going to try that next see if it might be the case, I am tempted to put it back into the original case and see if it is the new case that is causing the problem

From the first case yes, but originally I had a different GPU and PSU. I upgraded my GPU and PSU awhile ago, in my first case and it worked fine with no problems. Everything else is the same from Dell. I just tried to use my HDMI cable instead and still no signal :\

Let us know what you find when you remove the MB from the case and breadboard it.
Do you know the make/model of the MB, PSU, and your processor? Not that it matters if it works fine in the old case. Just curious.

Oh, and did you have any confusion over the FP to MB wiring?

I did, the Dell case came with a one stick connector to the jfp1. The new case gave me a punch of little ones. Took apart the front panel on the Dell case and figured out which was which, no problem there.

I do not know the make of the motherboard, Dell did not give me much info. I know the CPU is Intel i7 860, the PSU is LSP Ultra 550W ATX.

As I was moving the motherboard I noticed a small 4 pin connection on the top left that was empty. I looked at the little word next to it and it read "JPWR1"

I remember noticing that the 24 pin connector had "JPWR2" infront of it, so I thought maybe that was the problem, it needed the JPWR1 to be connected. I googled what is was for and people said extract fans or some sort. But I thought what do I have to lose anyways. Plugged it in and turned on the screen.

I forgot to mention that when I turned on the computer it was quite noisy, I thought it was just because the case had more holes and fans then the old one. I later found out it was the CPU fan that made the noise.

So I plugged the 4 pin in with one of the PSU cables, it turned on and with no noise, it sounded as if it was spinning at a slower rpm. I also noticed that the graphics card had 3 lights on instead of 2.

Problem is that the computer started to beep 5 times and when I looked at the screen it had "Alert! System FAN Failure"
Also under that it read "CMOS Settings Wrong" and "CMOS Date/Time Not Set"

So I am assuming that the GPU needs those 3 lights to be on and the CPU doesn't like that 4 pin being plugged in. I do not believe i had it plugged in before as I had to untangle my jumble of power cords to get the 4 pin connector.

I am waiting for the ok by you guys to go into setup or something before moving ahead. I did not like the 5 deeps coming from the computer and I would rather wait for you guys to give me ok to proceed.

Sorry for all the text, just want you guys to know whats going on seeing as you can not be here.
Thank you as well :)

Well I am assuming Dell wanted to screw me over -_-
Should I go through setup and see how that goes?
Will the Vostro fix itself?

I think it's fine, I was just doing some benching and someone said to take it out for 15 seconds and then re add it. So is everything okay? It was just the 4 pin that needed to be plugged in?

I believe it was a 6 pin for the HD 5770 and I got into Windows. It was at 800 x 600, I tried to change it too a higher res but it said no supported... so I went to see drivers and it looked like there was none... so i got the disc it came with and started to update. I believe it got stuck and now I am trying to restart and redo the drivers :\

Windows 7 Home Premium, it keeps saying alert fan etc. but i googled it and some people from dell forums said if the fan is spinning it should be fine. It is so far... I tried to run the drivers and it froze so i had to hard restart. Got into windows and it said i was using a temp profile and was not able to access files and etc. I just restarted and got into what looks like my regular setup.

Yeah got everything back to normal, the time was set back to 2011 but I changed it and now it all good.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I know it was weird and exhausting but I appreciate all the support
