Laptop connected to wifi no problem yesterday, used it for a couple of hours. Today it can see the network, i've rechecked the passphrase, it has maximum signal strength, 2 other devices can connect to it no problem - nothing has changed?

Solution
Uhm, okay, that sounds like 'historically' it has worked. I was asking, at this moment, disable wireless on the laptop, plug it in via wired to the router, and see what happens. If it worked when you just now tested it that way then it is the Wireless on the laptop is failing or corrupt. Try to update the drivers for it would be the next step if the system restore doesn't help resolve it.
Well I don't think the passphrase stored is correct is usually the case since only 1 of three devices as the problem. Simpliest solution, turn off security on the wifi. Can it connect with no security? If yes, then try resetting up the security. Now does it connect with the security on?
THe only other thing (top of my head) is I am not aware of XP (if the laptop has it) works with WPA2 which is the normal security used for systems. If your laptop is trying to connect with less (say WEP) then it might be time to replace the computer / OS to match up to the proper current standards.

Resetting the router allowed it to connect for several minutes, but then it dropped again, then after several attempts reconnected by itself, then dropped again within a couple of minutes. Tried changing passwords, encryption types, reinstalled network card drivers, router firmware is up to date. Laptop is running Windows 7.

Okay so the other computers run fine? What happens when you use a wired connection (disable the wireless)? Do you still drop repeatedly, if so then the laptop may be infected or have OS may need to be repaired. I would test with the wired connection, then if that works correctly, then I would suggest try using Windows System Restore and go back to before the issue happened if possible.

Works fine while on Ethernet, mobile broadband, other wifi networks, and tethered via USB. It must be a conflict between the router and this specific laptop. Will try a system restore if it has one a point saved. (Not my laptop)
