Hello,

Was wondering how one makes sure the card is running at the 1185 clock speed it says on the box and how high the temperature can go before card is in the danger zone.

Also did Unigin Heaven and had 3-5 single frame drops, is this normal ?

Solution

increase mem clock by 20 and increase gpu clock by 15
run a gpu benchmarking software like unigine valley, or unigine heaven, see that there's no crashes\black screens, and repeat step one.
once you find steady settings, decrease both by 5.
you will hit a limit without increaseing voltages, but i suggest you dont mess with voltages, just to be safe.

download evga precision x , u could see all ur stats, u can also use OSD( on screen display) for realtime stats while playing a video game.( keep in mind that the card wont run constantly at 1185, only when its needed to.)
max temps for ur card according to nvidia is 98 C, i would keep it around 80-85.
and yes it might be normal, make sure u have the latest drivers.

Do I want Evga Precision X on a Gigabyte card? I have gigabyte OC software but it just asks if I want to increase voltage which increases base and boost clocks.... but how do you switch from base to boost mode? my base is 1085 boost 1185

Overclocking ur cpu can gain you about 1-5 more frames and will barely make in diffrent in video games( in cpu dependent games it can get you a few more, but theres really no real point in overclocking ur cpu, since its already more then good enough for every game, but its easy, so why not?)

the gpu is still the limiting factor in ur pc, and by overclocking it you can gain a big performence boost.
games today are very gpu intensive, you will probably want to change you gpu in about 2yrs, while ur cpu can last you more then 4 easily.(but that's all about personal prefrence).
i for example have a better gpu then you, with a worst cpu then yours, and i have no cpu bottleneck in any game.
