I currently have two Corsair Dominator 2 GB (9-9-9-24) memory sticks and I'm planning to up the memory to 8 GB. I was looking at either Vengeance Low Profile or XMS3 4 GB kits to pair up with my Dominators, since my cpu cooler (Noctua U12P) doesn't give me the clearance to install another pair of Dominators.
However, the Dominators run at 1.65V while the Vengeance is specced at 1.5V and the XMS3 at either 1.5V or 1.65V. My noob-ish question is if I can run either the Vengeance or XMS3 at the 1.65V required by the Dominators, and whether this has any adverse effects on their performance?
As a secondary question, will I benefit from a 8-8-8-24 timed XMS3 (at 1.65V) over a kit with 9-9-9-24 (at 1.5V) timings, considering that my Dominators run at 9-9-9-24?
For the record, I have an i5-750 cpu running on a P7P55D-E PRO mobo.
Thank you in advance!
