Logitech G500 Cursor Locking Up Periodically (Windows 7 64-bit)

About two weeks ago, my Logitech G500's cursor started freezing up along with whatever action was being done.

(This is on Windows 7 64 bit)

For instance, this was first noticed in a video game I play frequently where the game would stutter and, since I had the right mouse button held down to control the camera (MMO-style), my cursor would stay hidden and I would be unable to move the camera for about 2-10 seconds every 5-30 minutes.

When this happens, the game also visibly lags and stutters, leading me to believe it was a computer performance or graphics issue that was causing my mouse to behave this way.

Unfortunately, I've noticed the problem occuring frequently outside of video games. Even as I type this, if I try to move my mouse, I may be plagued by the cursor freezing up.

I've tried uninstalling the old setpoint software and installing the new 'Logitech Gaming Software 8.46' but my problem wasn't fixed. In the Device Manager, there are no exclamation points and I've tried switching the USB port of the mouse. Unfortunately, I can't do a system restore because there aren't any restore points available after I had to restore from a Windows Update that was causing me issues a few weeks ago.

Thank you all in advance for your help!

I just had to replace a Logitech G500 that was doing the exact same thing. At first I thought it was the usb port so I moved it to different ports and still got the disconnects. Then I went on line and found that this problem is not uncommon for the G500 and that in most cases it's the branded cord that's the problem. The cord on my mouse at first just looked kinked but then it started to extrude from the braided fiber like this:

My solution was:

It's only going to get worst.

Thank you for the detailed response. If there's no other solutions, looks like I might just have to suck it up and buy myself a new mouse. :/

I love these mice.
Problem: the braided cord wears thru easily (defeats the purpose...)

My solution to keep mine going was take a very finely pointed knife and carefully pick at the braided cord all around the bended /exposed point. Then peeled the braided part back a bit, and wrapped the inner wire section with some good tape to keep it mostly straight and not easily bendable.
