I am currently looking for a ultra hi res monitor however am unsure as to which option to take.

I am looking at the ASUS PB278Q 27in which is 2560 x 1440 vs a 144hz monitor in 1080p.

Do I go for a high quality and sacrifice the refresh rate? Or do I go for the better refresh rate, however sacrifice the high quality?

I am currently running the below:

AMD 8350 @5.1ghz
Sapphire 2x 7970oc in crossfire

Any suggestions or thoughts are welcome

what monitor are you using right now?
unless your a hardcore gamer 144hz shouldnt make much of a difference compared to a 60hz
if your using a 60Hz 1920x1080p monitor and dont think there is any problems in the refresh rate then buy the higher resolution monitor

I would like to add to your question and ask those viewing this thread how they find the input lag on the Asus for gaming? Particularly for first person shooters.

Do you mostly play FPS games? How often do you play them? Daily for a few hours or a few hours a week. Do you play competitively or plan too? If yes to those and a few hours a daily or so then i'd go for the Asus 144hz monitor. Providing it has a 2ms or less.

If this is the monitor that you're talking about then I'd get it providing what I said above.

That's one of the monitors I was looking at but is it going to make any difference if I go the 2560x1440 it's still 5ms

Not really between 2ms and 5ms. With your setup though i'd use at least 120hz. Then again it's all preference. Go with what makes you happy in the end. If you can though go to the store and check out both or similar monitors OR if you have friends that have similar ones.

Yeah true that I just think with my 2 7970s I am better off with the higher res monitor but a 144kHz might be worth looking at I'll have to have a look like you said

Definitely take your time and have a look around and compare them both. With those cards though I would think you'd be running dual monitors.

Was going to run a triple setup but really not a fan of it I'd rather have a really nice single monitor

I know what you mean about the single monitor. Well best of luck with the hunt and checking them out for yourself!

Yeah that thanks it's a pain not a lot of stores keep in stock so it's to order so really have to go buy you tube and personal reviews makes it harder as be spending 600+ on a single monitor with out seeing one or playing with it makes it a hard choice
