I was set on getting the Samsung 840 120gb SSD until I started reading some reviews on it being unreliable and not as fast as it says it is. Is this true and if it is would it be better to get the 830 pro which is around the same price but older?

Solution
I have the 840 mainly because it is just fast enough for me and a little less expensive. It has been very reliable, the speed is much faster than my old HDD and I think it is more than worth the price. It's all about personal preference, if you prefer speed>money get the 840 pro but in my opinion the 840 is still a very good SSD.

After some research it seems that the 840 and the 840 pro have around the same write speed but the pro can write a lot faster. I'll probably get the 840 cos i don't do much rendering etc.

My two cents: Don't let benchmarks overwhelm you. Not everyone utilizes certain hardware aspects of their system the same way others do. Not to mention that everyone has a different experience with what they end up getting: You're going to have your bunch of bad reviews here, and you'll have your good reviews on the other side.

Also, about that price difference...you're kidding me, right?
