Bigger Upgrade Tech From TN Panel 1080p: 24" IPS 1080p or 27" IPS 1440p

It's kind of a rough question, I mean obviously the step to 27" 1440p on an IPS panel is a bigger upgrade than 1080p on an IPS panel 24"...

Basically, I have a TN Panel 60Hz 1080p 23" monitor today and I'm looking for an upgrade.

pretty sure I want IPS over 120Hz, but am not entirely sold on 1440p. I'm positive that it looks beautiful, but I feel like if not today, tomorrow- the extra resolution will eat my performance away and I'll need to buy another GTX 770 sooner than later.

So, I'm weighing the cheaper upgrade to 1080 on a nice IPS panel, vs going all in on a Dell 2713HM 27" 1440p monitor.

Thoughts on whether a 23 or 24 (and which?) 1080 IPS panel will feel like a true upgrade, or just a sidegrade? and will it be a decent upgrade or is the real noticable different/upgrade in the move to 1440p?

Going to another 1080p panel will be a sidegrade. all you're getting is worse response times but better colours. I love my 1440p monitor, and I find it impossible to go back to a 1080p panel. The colours are just atrocious on TN compared to IPS.

Be aware, if you're ever out of a GPU from selling one or planning to get a new one, you won't be able to run it. That's why I keep a 1080p panel on hand for emergencies.
