I want to upgrade my PC, I have a AMD sempron 145 CPU, (which I know this needs to go) with a Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2 rev 3.1 motherboard, 8gb of RAM, a decent PSU (above 400watts) and a CiT Vantage Mid Tower Gaming Case (it has 3 fans). Everything else with my PC is fine, I think. I'm looking at getting the AMD FX 8320, from the research I have done my motherboard is not compatible, so that lead my to find the ASrock N68C-GS FX. I think the CPU and motherboard will work together, but I'm not so sure about if it will fit the case I have. And if either of these parts are worth buying.

Hmm...looks like Planetside 2 won't require 8-core CPU. Since u didn't play high-demanding game. 965 is enough. No need for a 8-core CPU. Under $150 GPU I would recommend u HD 7850.High-end GTX cards, yes, are in high ground compared with HD 7800/HD 7900 series but a GTX 760 reaches $250. In $150 budget HD 7850 is the best, u could also get GTX 650ti boost by around $150 but it was beaten by 7850.

I saw u have some worries on the productivity of the CPU. Only if u play high-demanding games in high settings do u need i5 or FX-8320 CPU. And for only everyday usage such as surfing the web and word processing, even Athlon X4 640 could handle it without problem in at least the next 5 years, so as the newer programs. "Planetside 2, minecraft...

Your mobo, Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2, supports Phenom II CPU. Here is the support list:http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3967

Are u going for high-demand gaming or high-demand designing (like using Photoshop or editing video)? It's a big loop from single-core sempron to octo-core, expensive FX-8320

Phenom II X4 965 (3.4Ghz, 6M L3 cache and unlock multiplier) is selling in a bargain price. U could consider it if u want high performance.

Here is the newegg.com link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727

or a decent Athlon X4 640 processor but a little bit weaker than 965: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871&Tpk=x4%20640&IsVirtualParent=1

Do u want a good graphic card?

I'm mainly going to use the PC for everyday use (surfing the web and word processing) but I'm also going to do some gaming - Planetside 2, minecraft and simple flash games. The AMD Phenom II X4 965 looks good for what I need, but will it last at least 2 years? and how well will it hold up? as in will run newer programs at an decent speed? The main reason I was looking at the AMD FX 8320 was because of its price to power ratio as reviews say its comparable to an intel i5. I'm assuming FX 8320 is one of the latest and best (because it has 8 cores) AMD CPU (FX 8350 being the newest). And with getting a graphics card, most people say get Nvidia GTX card as they are better than AMDs, I don't want to spend $500 on high end card so what would be a decent under $150 GPU? And if I got a graphics card, would I need a new motherboard, and if not how easy would it be to bypass the integrated graphics card in my motherboard? That is assuming it needs to be bypassed.

"Planetside 2, minecraft and simple flash games" are very light and don't even require HD 7850 and x4 965 (HD 7750 would deal with them easily). The most important thing for u is: do u really prepare to play large games such as GTA5, BF4(both will come soon),Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, BF3 and so on? 'cause I don't want u to regret on your build just solely based on my suggestion. Any more details u could provide could help guys who would like to help JUDGE.

I think getting just the processor (Phenom II X4 965) would be the best option. I think I will wait on getting a graphics card as I don't plan to play high demand games on my PC, I primarily use my PS3 for playing games like BF3 and am planning to get whichever next gen console looks best (I think the PS4). Thank you so much for your help, I couldn't have came to this conclusion in my own. Most likely if I hadn't asked for help I would have wasted my money on the FX 8320 and a new motherboard, which I would have no need for a high end CPU like that.
