I have 4 DDR2 memory sticks that I need to distribute across 2 computers.

I'll list the sticks specs transcribed from Speccy and then I'll tell you what I think is the best set-up. Hopefully you will be willing to help and either confirm my guess or give me the appropriate one.

RAM sticks specifications:

It seams the forum deletes the tab spacing so I also uploaded a .txt file of the specs here

Preferably I'd like to be able to use dual-channel in both. And have one with 2GB and the other with 1GB.

From my little knowledge on the subject, the ideal set up would be:
PC1: stick1+2
PC2: stick3+4
this would make both dual-channel but PC2 would have slightly slower RAM speed because one of the sticks would force the set to use PC2-4300 - 266 MHz speed (not sure about this).

So a few questions:
1. Are my set up and assumptions correct?
2. To put sticks in dual-channel I use the two identically colored slots and not the ones that are closer together but have different color, right?
3. Do I need to do anything in the bios or the OS to activate dual-channel?

Thanks in advance if you decide to help me out.

Sounds like you have it ready to go, give 'em a whirl and let us know how it goes, if you do have a problem w/ either set chances are good raising the DRAM voltage about + 0.05 will straighten it out...either way, drop an update ;)

Since no one confirmed my questions, I tried the setup I mentioned. It all seams good. Both computers report dual in the software, so they must be using dual channel.
And, like I thought, PC2 got the RAM speed reduced to the slowest stick.

I didn't do a benchmark before the switch. Does having dual channel really compensates the speed downgrade? PC2-5300(333MHz) to PC2-4300(266MHz) ?

As I said, "Sounds like you have it ready to go", appears to have been ready, the Dual channel provides a 10-15% increase in performance which will more than cover the slight freq drop

Thx man. I did take advice from your post, but since you didn't write a lot on my assumptions I didn't know if you were confirming all of them or just saying "try it and see". Sorry:)

That was my guess as well. Thanks

Nope, simply meant you are on top of it and I agree with you, and was pleased to see it, many on the forums here tend to not think and take bad advice......you made my day the other day ;)
