Ok, im a nerdy computer folk also, but i hit a road block.

Im building a new rig currently with: i5 3.1, Elitegroup h61h2-a2, 8gigs of 1333 ddr3, havent got it yet but a GTX 650 TI boost, Windows8 pro. Right now i have an old video card in it to get it running, the GTX comes on wednesday.

I assembled all the components turned it on a low and behold it worked first try, sort of. It ran POST and i got into the bios, when i realized i didnt plug in the dvd drive. So i turned it off plugged it in and now it has no display when turned on, it has signal but wont show anything. Well damn, so i play around with some things and start disconnecting hardware till it starts up properly again. I had the dvd drive and hard drive unplugged, all external fans and lights, also. Still nothing, so i decide to try a different video card i had laying around, and without the dvd, HD, and lights on it POSTed fine and i got back into the BIOS, sweet maybe i just messed the other video card up. Well i needed to turn it off so i could plug the dvd and hard drives back in to load up the OS, when what happens? Yep no more signal and this time the monitor just says no signal(where previously it was just black).

This said, i do NOT have a mobo speaker right now, i dont know where it went and this town sucks for comp parts, but im trying to get one asap to see if i have an beep codes.

Things i have done to try and figure it out:
Swapped ram around in all slots with everything - nothing.
I completely tore the computer back down to original components and re installed everything - nothing.
Reset the BIOS through the battery - nothing.
Reset the BIOS through jumpers - nothing.
Cross checked that the video cards work (they both still do on another machine).
Tried onboard graphics through HDMI, VGA, DVI, and adapters of all combinations - Nothing.
Tested the PSU, tests fine.

Im out of ideas on what to trouble shoot or even where to begin at this point. So anyone got some suggestions?

Solution
Pull the Mb from the case to rule out a dead short. Use one dimm and the onboard video port. Most new mb don't have speaker on them. If there is a speaker it comes with the case. If you get the mb to post again flash the bios to the newest rev. The h61 mb will run ib CPU if it has the right bios file on it. Look under the mb to make sure you used all the brass case standoffs to keep the my from shorting out. Check for dropped screws and the mb io shield shorting out a USB or the bottom of the mb.
