Serious problem with computer freezing after start-up

Specs: i5 4670k
7970 HD
Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H

I have a serious problem with my current desktop. My computer will boot up fine, but within a few minutes will inevitably freeze. Sometimes it freezes almost immediately, and sometimes it will last as long as five minutes. It's just like a screenshot was taken and I can't do anything but look at it. The cursor is frozen. I have tried everything I know. Fresh install of windows 8 (on different drives as well), remove the GPU and boot without it (exact same thing happens), remove the ram and moved it to the other two slots, reset the bios, and clear CMOS. Same thing still happens.

One of the times it lasted a few minutes, I was able to download CPU-Z and noticed my CPU was running at 3.6 GHz (stock is 3.4). This should be impossible, considering I reset the CMOS and the BIOS are set to their default values. Is this a sign my CPU is bad? I am assuming it's either the CPU or the mobo. I've pretty much eliminated everything else.

Any help is appreciated.
