Hello,

Recently I had been getting a Black Screen Error because I installed a Graphics Driver and It corrupted I think. I tried many things like Uninstalling it in Safe Mode and try reinstalling it. Well now I have found out why I have been getting this Black Screen. When start up my computer. It Loads and It goes Black after the Windows 7 Starting Windows Logo because the Computer wants to read the VGA instead of my Graphics Card. My Motherboard is not smart enough to read what I want to use. Instead it reads the VGA. So how do I disable or remove the VGA from my computer so I can run my system again with my Graphics card. Heres my Specs

MSI K9N6PGM2-V
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX+
2GB Ram
750GB HDD
AMD Phenom 965 X4 @2.31GHz
OnBoard Graphics is a Nvidia nForce

Thank's

P.S- Every Motherboard BIO's is different so what you tell me to do on your motherboard won't fix what to do on mine unless you have the same model or possibly the same Brand(MSI)

Solution
You can see everything in safe mode just fine? driver problem then.
Don't install Windows Update drivers - ever for your graphics card. It's a waste of time, i'd even recommend installing the motherboard drivers manually from the MSI website if you could (do they even have a website? )

1: Get on safe mode, uninstall the the graphics drivers, including graphics drivers downloaded with windows update.
>
2: Reboot & go back into safe mode with networking
>
3: Run Driver Sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/content_page/guru3d_driver_sweeper.html
>
4: Reboot, and see if your windows goes back to a black screen, or if you can view it normally again :)
>
5: If everything is fine, goto the nvidia website and download the correct driver for...
I stopped buying MSI boards long ago and that ones so old not too many people would know exactly what the BIOS option look like to an extent.

you need to disable the vga in the BIOS. set it to auto or PEG or maybe pci if that's all there is.

you also need to read the instructions of the bottom of the screen on how to save your changes after you're done. the machine should then restart and boot normally.

you can do this with the on board video plugged in., and when you make your changes and the machine starts it's reboot you can kill the power and install the cad. then attach cable from on board to card itself. then reboot as normal.

I already tried disabling it in the Bios and setting my Primary Graphics Adapter to PCI-E and still no luck. I know it wants to read the VGA. I tried to disable it in Device Manager but I cant connect the Graphics Card and the VGA at the same time so I get both of them up in Device manager.

Uninstall the Graphics Drivers and try reinstalling them? I tried this already many of times. I saw this forum and it was pretty good I think this will fix the problem but I can't do the step where I go into safe mode and install the graphics card drivers cause Nvidia says "Installation could not continue, No Nvidia Hardware found"

How can I delete the VGA from the registry also the last windows update was recent since I reformatted my pc cause I thought it might fix the problem

you did a reformat/went to windows update/updated BIOS/ did you also update the motherboard drivers?

did you try to uninstall anything from add/remove

what about ccleaner/tools? uninstall

are you sure the motherboard is good and that the slot isn't bad?

is the card okay?

the video card have 2 dvi connectors or 1 dvi and 1 vga?

I have done all of that updating I'm sure that the motherboard is not bad. This all happened on the day the new driver came out and I installed it then this happened. The card is fine it's running the fan ok and everything is plugged in.windows even try's installing it when I first boot in normal mode without the drivers. Just to make sure ill test the card on another pc soon. This card has 2 DVI slots. I have a 22" Samsung tv/monitor. It has no Dvi connector so I use a HDMI to DVI adapter so it connects to my card.

If my graphics card was dead or broken it would be beeping like nuts when I boot it up.

Could this have to do with my monitor cause In device manager I have no hardware tab that says Monitor. Thank you guys for trying to help me out I really appreciate it.

If @ 4# you still have a black screen, you may need to give us a screenshot of your installed drivers & programs!

Ok, I Uninstalled the Driver in Safe Mode, Booted it Up, It works fine now in Normal Mode, Screens a bit you know, Bulky and Bold. It loads windows Fine. A pop up on the bottom right says "Installing Devices" Or something close to that. Then a few seconds later it pops up again saying it Installed my Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX+ Ok I can't do anything to stop that. Even if I do try to uninstall it again. Nvidia Won't let me install the graphics driver unless the Graphics Card is Recognized. So I just ignore it and Install the graphics Driver. I reboot and I get the Black Screen again. I will send a bunch of screen shot's of what It does cause it's not pretty lol. You want me to even upload a video to Youtube to see what it's doing?

I have no clue. I just went to the menu, Input, Source List and saw 3 Options, TV, PC, And HDMI/DVI. I don't think you can Disable/Enable the slots. However. I did see a Game Mode and V-Chip thing on there I have no clue what those are so I'm just wondering if it has something to do with this problem. Game Mode was grayed out and set to Off. I don't know if there's some kind of software I need to download maybe off of samsungs website. There might I'll go check. BUT There was a Diagnosis and it said "Audio test" And "Picture test" I did picture test when I came to the black screen and it showed Black,Yellow,Green,White,Blue,Red Diagonal Lines and That shows the monitor displays correctly. So I think it has to be the Graphics Driver.

I tried downloading the Older Version(320.18). That version worked fine until I downloaded the Newer version. Now no matter what version I download, It still gets the black screen But guys read the comment I put up there yesterday with the Link. Check out that forum. It shows someone who has almost the same exact Model as my Motherboard and the same exact problem.

Good, that shows it's a driver fault.

That will be the standard driver with windows, then you installed Nvidia Driver from the website yeah? that would be correct way. To prove that, uninstall everything again, restart windows, let it come up with it's notification, (Without you installing the driver from Nvidia website) then reboot, should still work.

Oh yeah turn off automatic installation of updates :)

Could be Motherboard Driver - Graphics driver compatibility then.

But something new came up. When I went back to Device Manager, On Other Devices, Co-Processor and Display(This is the new thing) Popped up. I think it Might work now so I will check it out and let you guys know. Also I just turned off my Windows Update.

Ok, I tried your solution. Uninstalling all the drivers. Restarting and Letting windows install it for me. Then right when you said restart again and it should boot up fine. I had the black screen problem again. And also I tried getting the Motherboard drivers same problem. I did it off of MSI Live Update. A Program that search's for updates I need. I got a Nvidia MCP(MB Driver) and I installed that and still no luck. BTW No one has answered my question. How do i disable On-Board VGA so my PC Reads my Graphics Card? I think it has to be that. It won't let me boot up into windows cause It reads the VGA. My Motherboard is Old and it is not Smart enough to read what I want to use.

You have to keep windows from installing the newer drivers automatically (this can be a huge PITA)
Then download and install the older drivers.

The windows driver cache is extremely intrusive at time.

I think you can deleted the related files in C:/Windows/System32/DriverStore/FileRepository/
But be careful. I am not sure which ones are the NVidia drivers since I am an AMD card user.

Deleting the wrong files can mess up your installation.

how's about trying another monitor?........ or maybe a new cable?

there's obviously something wrong somewhere and/or you're missing something.

your motherboard could be shot. Having one that old, with those components...... and THAT name brand is a miracle in itself.

know anybody in your "network" that's knowledgeable and that can look at it for free?

maybe your power supply can't provide enough to properly power everything?
