Hey guys I have a hammer NAS device that the nic went out due to a lighting strike on my house. What I was wondering if I attached the 2 harddrives to my PC will it still read the raid array so I can recover the info?

Solution
Yes attach the drives to your computer.
Boot the computer with your Linux boot CD.
Windows itself plays no role in this.

If you run into trouble I am working on a custom Linux CD that will automate the process of basic data recovery. The beauty of it is that it requires zero Linux knowledge.

The way it works is you boot the CD and it automatically identifies all the partitions on your system and mounts each partition read-only. It then creates network shares for each partition. You are then able to access the shares from another Windows PC on your local network and copy your data.

Hammer NAS devices I believe use Linux software RAID under the hood. So if your plan is to connect the drives to a Windows PC then Windows by itself will not know what to do with the drives. You would need to buy RAID recovery software to operate on the drives.

But I would suggest you use a Linux boot CD. Linux should see the drives and detect they are part of a RAID and allow you to proceed with a recovery operation.
