ram questions 2x4 vs 1x

2x4 vs 1x RAM

I have 2x4 8gb corsair vengeanze ram. Should I have rather gotten a 1x 8gb?

And if I later want to upgrade to 16gb could I get a 1x 8gb or would I need a 2x4?

And are different ram brands compaitble with eachother?

Best analogy is like a highway. Do you want 8GB of cars traveling down 4 lanes? Or would you rather 4GB of cars traveling down 4 lanes and another 4GB of cars traveling down another 4 lanes?

Dual channel is faster. You bought 2x4GB , and that is the right way to buy RAM. Now, make sure you put it in the right slots. If you have 4 RAM slots then you need to put it into slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4.

In the future if you want to upgrade, buy 2x4GB, not 1x8GB.
