I copied some cartoon dvd's for my son onto a memory stick on my friends computer. If I put the memory stick into my computer, which is a Asus, it only displays the dvd as a screen saver with the rights sounds of the movie.
If we put it into my friends computer, it show the movie as normal. I aslo copied some from a external hard drive and the same happened
What is wrong with my dvd player?

Are you talking about the physical DVD player or the software used to play it? There are a ton of different video file types, any of which you can burn to a DVD but most of those will not play like a regular DVD. In order for a DVD player to read a DVD like a regular movie DVD, you have to have the right type of files on it.
You need to know the format of the files you are trying to play before you can figure out how to play them. VLC Media Player can play just about any video format out there, including regular DVDs, ripped VOB files, MPG files, AVI files, etc...
Not sure what you mean by a "screen saver", so you can hear the sound but no video? See what program the computer that works is using to play the video, install that on your computer. Probably the best video player is VLC Media Player, you can just install that on your computer, should play the files with no issues.
