I got a free server along with lots of other free components and i'm trying to figure out how to connect the hard drive array. I have the manual for it, but I have no experience with this type of equipment, and I can't understand the manual very well.
Unit has 12 HDD bays, it came with 11 x 300GB HDDs and one is missing (will it work without one?)
Connecting it using the LAN port to a router does nothing.
It has the following connections on the back:
-LAN
-CLI
-SAS port (trapezoid shaped)
-FC ports (port0,port1)
I have a server with an scsi card installed.
I need someone to explain to me how to get the array to interface with the server or a reguar PC to see if the array is fully functional. I would want to try to load a random file (movie, etc) onto it to see if it works.
Can the array be set up in my home so it only turns on when I want to retrieve something (movie, program, etc) from it? Any way to decrease noise level by running only the HDDS that are needed?
Can some of the HDDS (seagate cheetah) be installed onto a regular PC?
