I currently have the ram Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance (2x4GB) in my AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 Motherboard. I have 2 spare RAM slots, and I'm planning on upgrading from 8GB to 16GB.

The problem is the CPU cooler I'm using, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, is fairly big and the fan hangs over one of the empty RAM slots. This means I can't get more of the same RAM because they won't fit :(

Do you know if I can mix any low profile ram sticks with the ones I have at the minute? Any suggestions on which model?

I guess another option would be to move the fan upwards slightly. I'm not sure how this will affect the cooling capabilities though.

Thanks!

It's never a good aidea to mix packages of sticks, simply put they may not want to play together, even the same exact model....On the Evo and high profile DRAM, no problem, I run one on my Z&& with 32GB of GSkill Tridents, and on my P67 with 32 of Ripjaws X, with both had to raise the fan on the front of the EVO about a 1/4 inch, both idle in low 30s, so it's no problem

So I bought the same model ram but in low profile (CML8GX3M2A1600C9). I was a bit scared in case they wouldn't match, but I can't afford to get a whole new set of ram at the minute.

I've fixed it all in place and it all seems to be working fine. Thanks again for the help :)
