I bought a new laptop and I'm looking to install a new SSD.. It didn't come with an OS disk? It said to make a recovery disk, which I did using a USB stick, but is that the correct way? I don't understand how I can install the new OS...

Solution
I would clone your existing drive onto the SSD. Use an external enclosure, preferably eSATA or USB3.0 if your laptop supports it.
Or, you could create recovery media, install the SSD, then recover to it. As to whether the USB stick will work, that's a question for your laptop's Help on recovery, or for its manual, or tech support.

Im pretty sure I made a recovery media with an usb, took me like 2 hours. I just want to make sure that the recovery I made will actually install the new OS on the SSD. I looked up recovery media.difference between OS disk and people said its not the same. Ill give it a go tonite.
