Hey

So I'm looking for a video card that will be suitable for video editing. I currently have a 5570 from a couple years back but I need something stronger to run Premiere CS6 and After Effects. I've read up online that apparently NVIDIA cards are optimized with "cuda" cores to better process things in Premiere, and people in the media community generally prefer NVIDIA. But on the other hand, the 7950 has a whopping 3GB of VRAM compared to the 1GB of the 660 (if that does anything). I've read a lot of reviews and comparisons online but some seem very polar in what is best. My price range is in between 250-300 dollars; I also live in Canada and am open to any form of online ordering. I also heard that NVIDIA just released the 760, should I get that instead, or does it have less driver support ATM? And, would it also help if I got an SSD as well, would that improve cache speeds?

Also, a bit unrelated, how do iMacs with apparently generic hardware manage to effortlessly run programs like Premiere, while my powerhouse struggles to render a 2 minute clip?...

Oh, I almost forgot, here are my current specs:

XFX 5570 1GB (no OC; had some unpleasant overheating issues)
6 Core Phenom 1090t at stock voltage
8gb ram
600w psu
and I also have my integrated motherboard graphics running beside my 5570 so that I could use 2 monitors (the 2nd monitor is VGA only)

Thanks a lot, I apologize for any stupid questions

I'll check into that, but they're currently sold out on newegg. And will the card process HD video smoothly (like say render 5 minutes of footage in a couple of seconds)?

Render times are really bugging me at the moment because when I get into a project, a third of the time I just spend waiting for the timeline to process and it's really throwing off my workflow.

Yes it should render a lot faster. Find a 760, preferably the MSI, Gigabyte or Asus models, or EVGA's model with ACX fan. The 760 will out perform the 660 Ti and in most cases the 7950.

Try amazon or some other local store.

Actually, if you're intending to do video editing, this would probably be better (same price range):

the GTX series is ok for video editing i guess but is mainly meant for gaming. if you also intend to game as well as video edit then the GTX 760 is probably the best idea, but quadros do a much better job for video editing
