Hi,
I'm looking to build a scaleable home system that I can begin to use for some freelance work. I work mainly in the architecture business (AutoCad, Rhino, Vray), but also do a lot of generic graphic stuff (Adobe Creative Suite), and video work (Premier Pro, After Effects). I say scaleable because I'm on a tight budget now but want to be able to upgrade in a year or two if need be. I'm hoping to spend less than $800, although the current build is around $740. I'd like to spend even less if possible. I have a monitor, keyboard, windows, etc.

I'm generally interested in smaller form factor if possible.
I'd love to hear your advice!

Solution
Not very much to go on with this build. An odd combination of budget and high end parts. Micro/Mini ATX for an expandable workstation? ATX or Full ATX at least.

You really don't need a Xeon for the type of work you are talking about, but something you would want is a workstation class graphics card such as an nvidia quadro or ATI firepro for things like Rhino.

Maybe an i7-4770/3770 and a quadro k1000 or k2000 for your budget. Though a store bought desktop with an i7 would probably be a good start considering your budget. Then you can add the workstation card.

A proper upgradeable workstation class system based on an X79 motherboard and a mid-range Xeon and a mid-range workstation card would set you back a lot of money.
