I am thinking of getting the yamakasi catleap monitor:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-YAMAKASI-CATLEAP-Q270-SE-27...

I will use it for moderate gaming, nothing too intense. Mostly, I will watch videos and be doing digital art, so I wanted their good display quality at a low price.

The problem is that I have a HD 5870 cypress XT graphics card. It mentions here that my graphics card does not support the yamakasi monitor(the purple graph in the image section):

http://www.amazon.com/Yamakasi-2560x1440-S-IPS-Quad-mon...

My graphics card(as of now is discontinued):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I have read the specifications and find that my graphics card has two DVI outputs. I came here for confirmation if my HD 5870 cypress XT can or cannot actually support the yamakasi monitors, anyone know?

If it is not compatible, can anyone suggest another monitor with matte(preferable) display quality and color accuracy? My budget is around $400.

I can't say for certain if your cards works with the Yamakasi. I would check AMD's site to see if the card supports 2560x1440 resolution through dual-link DVI. Most likely that is the issue if your card is incompatible.

I can suggest other Korean monitor manufacturers to look at (they all use the same LG IPS panels).

Acheiva Shimian
Crossover 27Q
Potalion 2710QW

There are also a couple US companies getting down on the action. Microcenter has their own, the Aura.
There is also Overlord computers, they have several models.

All these monitors are in the $4-500 range. I actually recommend against the catleap now because it's gained in popularity over the last year - which has increased it's price even though it's not any better than the other monitors.

If you want a monitor overclockable to 120hz, you'll need to get a 120hz catleap from 120hz.net, or one of overlord's 120hz models (they run ~$7-800). If you're a tinkerer, you could also dig up an achieva shimian for cheap and then get the overclockable circuit board ($200) from overlord (fits achieva, catleaps, and overlord's monitors, does *not* fit in crossover, unsure about potalion and aura.)

You won't get much of a warranty with the Korean monitors, if you need a warranty go with microcenter or overlord computers. Otherwise, your best bet is craigslist, imho. I picked up my potalion for $250 in the chicago area.

enjoy!

I am doubtful about the accuracy of the compatibility lists of those Korean monitors - I used to have an ati 5770 card, which is listed as incompatible with both the 2560x1440 monitors and the 2560x1600 monitors on eBay, but I had it running at 2560x1600 over dual-link dvi with a Gateway XHD3000. Also, the standard compatibility table that they all include says low profile gpus are not compatible, yet they list the hd 5450, which is almost always low-profile, as compatible, and the hd 6770, which is reputed to be a rebadged 5770, is listed as compatible. As far as matte, I'm not sure Auria, Yamakasi, Achieva, Crossover, or Potalion offer any matte versions. Qnix and X-Star do, though.

The max resolution for HD5870 is 2560 x 1600, does that work?

Also, I am not really getting dual monitors, I just happen to have linked to a yamakasi that says dual monitors. This one is more accurate:

That *should* work. Once again we can't say for certain unless you luck out and someone happens by this thread that has both your card and a korean IPS panel...

I agree with Mauve in that the compatability lists is a bit off, I can only assume that they listed cards they have confirmed to be compatible and simply listed any cards they have not tested as incompatible.

as an aside, the 6770 is mostly a rebadged 5770 but there are some differences between them. One I remember was in the firmware - the 6770 supports blu-ray playback, while the 5770 does not.

I am leaning on the microcenter Auria. Some reviews I have read around the web states they come in glossy only, but their official website states it has anti-glare(matte). Another thing that worries me is that one of the reviews states that the monitor is no longer LED backlit. The reviewer also stated that the gamut has changed. So I am wondering if they have changed their displays?

Second page of the review tab, around the seventh comment:

Nothing wrong with CCFL backlighting unless you're trying to cut down on your energy consumption :-) There's actually potential benefit in that the effective duty cycle of CCFL backlighting is longer, so reduced flicker where PWM is used. The only LED backlighting that will really benefit colour gamut is RGB-LED and I'm pretty sure these aren't using those.

I think I will be okay. Here is a guy testing a QNIX on a HD5850, which is supposedly "not supported". It "eventually" works, just not at the start-up screen.

I am still skeptical of the Auria, and the reviews are making me lean back on the Korean monitors.
