I have an Actiontek Router and have Verizon Fios Quantum. The distance from my router and my desktop is about 50 feet. I have a floor and a few walls between my room and the router. My desktop is brand new I just built it. My laptop is getting speeds of 4.55Mb/s Down and 7.52Mb/s up and my desktop gets 1.38Mb/s Down and 1.29Mb/s Up They are both equal distance from the router and my Desktop Wifi Adapter Card is an ASUS PCE-N15. Link to amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054L9PWO/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Any help would be appreciated. I would like to know if I need a better wifi adapter or if it seems broken. Thanks.

Really your best measurement test to validate the assumption there is a difference would be to place the laptop squarely on top of the desktop, then both systems at the same time click the same download link from the same website of the same file, using the same webbrowser on the same operating systems. Any deviations should be noted then we can really assess this. I would suggest both access filehippo.com and download AVAST! latest version (your not installing your just downloading). Then monitor both.

Once you established this baseline I think a better comment on the exact differences of the systems plus the results can help narrow things. Remember BOTH machines should have the click to download ready then click on one then the...

The Router is in the corner on the house but and it a bit enclosed. The antenna of the desktop is in the open, not much interference. But the laptop is in the same place and is getting better performance.

I Ran it on both my laptop and my desktop and on my desktop the RSSI was about -70. On the laptop the RSSI was steady at about -65
I'm Still confused why my laptop is getting better speed with the factory wifi chip.

That is really high for being in the same house, My neighbors across the street register at -70.
I have a cheap DLink USB adapter..
I pick my wireless router up next to the router at -42 and on the opposite side of the house at -50. Next door is -45 to -70

Try relocating the problem system to see if the performance improves. I would call verizon tech support if the issue persists.

Is there anyway to fix this? Is my wifi card bad or needs an upgrade? What is interfering? Do I need to upgrade my router? I'm also getting about -70 from my neighbors as well.

Try relocating the problem PC closer to the verizon gateway temporarily to see if the performance improves.
It sounds like you may need to purchase a wireless router/access point, instead of using the Verizon Gateway.

Optionally ask your neighbor if they would mind if you tested out your connection on their WiFi if you can connect to them since you are having issues to help validate it being the adapter or verizon gateway.

I've moved it downstairs to the closest available desk and it is about 25 feet away from the router and it averages about -60 RSSI. And another thing I forgot to mention is we used to have regular fios and after we upgraded it to quantum it seemed the devices on wifi got slower.

Any issues with the performance as you mentioned when closer to the router?
It is still low IMO but shouldn't affect bandwidth much at -60, usually issues arise around -70 or higher.

I would do a reset of the router and call verizon to see if they can help troubleshoot.
