Screen temporarily goes black during gameplay/videos

Background: I recently built a new PC for gaming. Everything worked great for close to a week. I could run all my games at max settings and get a solid 60 FPS. Two days ago, however, after my computer turned off unexpectedly, I started to get a black screen while playing Tomb Raider. I thought it was the game, but then the same problem occurred while playing Battlefield 3. Then after that, I noticed that the black screen appeared when streaming video. It seems as if it occurs during any graphic task. I speculate that I might have to return the GPU to EVGA.

Problem: Screen goes black for anywhere between 1-5 seconds while playing games or watching videos in random intervals (anywhere between every minute to every twenty minutes).

Facts:

  • GPU Temp is 50-60 degrees C
CPU Temp is 35-45 degrees C
    Latest GPU Drivers
    Latest DirectX
    Latest Windows Update
I've tried lowering the graphics settings in intervals (all the way to Low)
    I'm not overclocking anything

Components:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX770
PSU: COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M700
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB
MB: ASRock Z87E-ITX
SSD: Kingston SSDNow V100 256GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3 TB
OS: Windows 8

Thanks in advance for any help!

If it's mixed sets, they may not be playing well together....this time of thing can happen anytime you mix sets, regardless of Brand, even with the same exact model, generally can be straightened out with voltage or timing adjustments

Yes, I have the latest everything.
Yes, the RAM came together from Newegg.

I'd love if you could post a solution if you find it. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. How long has this been happening with you? Can you think of anything that happened immediately before it started? (Maybe we have something in common)

Honestly, I'll save this solution as a last resort. Reinstalling Windows and then reloading all my software is never a fun task. Thanks.

Sorry if I was vague. I bought G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM from Newegg (two sticks of identical RAM in the same package (sealed in plastic by G.SKILL)).

I got the card on release and its done it since then, reports a driver crash in the lower right of the screen, then recovers. It was much worse on 320.18, it's only happened to me once on 320.49.

Just wanted to be sure, can get problems like this from DRAM, and many like to buy 2 2x4GB sets to get to 16GB and thnk they are saving money (about $8) by buying two packages, then it ends up costing them a few hours of their time, worth much more than $8...didn't mean to insult or anything, just wanted to clarify...Can check that you have latest BIOS and are running them under XMP/Profile 1

My problem is slightly different as it does not report a driver crash, or any crash for that matter. Have you contacted EVGA?

Oh, don't worry. I realize the wide variety of issues that must occur on forums such as these. I didn't mean to come off as upset in my last post, I was just trying to be as specific as possible to prevent any further confusion.

Yes, I have updated to the latest BIOS and my XMP settings are on Auto.

I didn't bother contacting anyone about it because if you check the feedback on the Nvidia site everyone has the same problem.

It's on Auto, not necessarily enabled (I guess?). Do you really think this (XMP and RAM) could be the problem for intermittent black flickering on the screen?

Could you point me to that link? Thanks again.

The problem is that I don't have it figured out... I really can't seem to get to the bottom of this flickering on my screen and it's really starting to frustrate me. I'm really considering an RMA on the GPU, but only if I can ensure the GPU is the cause of the problem.
