I'll be majoring in engineering, so I'm assuming heavy usage for the laptop. However, I currently have an HP 17inch laptop, i7 (2nd generation), 4 gb ram, 600gb hard drive, 2.20 GHz processor speed. I will be taking this to college as well, but being 17 inch makes it somewhat uncomfortable to carry around.

I'm not really sure where to start in looking for a new laptop. I'd like it to be fairly mobile, so maybe 14 inch, 15.6 inch at max. I'd like an i7 processor. My college strongly suggests a 2.5 GHz with at least 6 gb RAM. I'm assuming I'll be using windows 8. Also, with running AutoCAD and similar software, I'm not sure what type of graphics card to look for.

I'd also like it to be less than 1,000 since likely I'll be replacing it in a few years, and I have two laptops to split the burden. I'd like a good battery life, but I'm not sure how I feel about sealed batteries...

This is what I'm currently looking at

Any opinions? What else should I consider?

For using design programs, I'd stick with your current 17" laptop, just get a good carry bag for it. Unless you plan on also getting an external monitor. That Lenovo is a good model, although you are paying more for the touchscreen. I'd go towards the ThinkPad series, they are built better.
