Not sure whether to Crossfire 2 AMD Radeon HD 7770s or to upgrade to a higher end card

Hi, I built a new computer last summer and it was good then, but I've noticed that the graphics card I've installed in it seems to be lacking, and as such I'm considering getting some sort of upgrade; I'm considering either buying a second card and Crossfiring, or just replacing it with a better one.

The specs of my computer are as follows:

GPU: HIS AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB GHZ Edition

CPU: Intel i5 3570k

Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX

PSU: OCZ ModXStream 700w Modular

Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout

I have concerns about Crossfiring with my motherboard, as I've heard that the second PCI-E x16 slot is electronically an x4 slot, but I'm not entirely sure if I heard correctly.

If I decided to upgrade, I'd most likely go for an AMD Radeon HD 78[50/70] or an AMD Radeon HD 79[50/70]; I don't plan to go Nvidia as they seem to be more expensive and I don't want to deal with setting up multiple monitors again on a different platform.

I have 2 monitors at the moment and I plan to get 3 soon, at the moment I have one 1080p monitor and one 720p monitor; my next one will be most likely 1080p. I have one monitor (the 720p one) running off of a DVI cable and the other one (1080p) running from an HDMI to DVI cable. Crossfiring would make it easier to get a 3rd monitor as I would not have to use DisplayPort for the third monitor, but I think I could still work with DisplayPort.

Thanks!

Solution
First off if you crossfire ALL the monitors have to be hooked up to the primary GPU. You MUST use display port for the 3rd monitor. Obviously you must only be gaming on only one monitor though, so you could hook it up and enable crossfire on one monitors for gaming, and disable it for desktop work.

BUT crossfire/SLI is never recommended with low end cards and AMD has major crossfire stutter issues right now. And I love AMD. So... No. sell it, buy a 7870XT or higher or equivalent nvidia... Get a 7950 get some great games.

cards are cheap right now you can pick up a decent gpu for cheap ex:7850 2gb $135, 7870 $170, 7950 $210. wouldnt bother xfiring those cards, not all games will benefit from dual gpu, so i will have to say just get a more powerfull card wile the price is low.
