I am having a problem with a new build (my first) where the BIOS--as well as SeaTools diagnostic software--is not recognizing my hard drive. Details follow. Here are my components:
Motherboard: ASRock Z75 Pro3
Hard drive: Western Digtial WD Blue WD10EZEX
What seems odd about this problem is that, after initially building the computer and going into BIOS, both the HDD and the optical drive were detected, at which point I specified the boot order (optical drive first). The problem first arose when I tried to then install Windows, when I was given an error during setup after having selected custom install and partitioned the HDD and so on. I found recommendations on another forum to go into the command line to try "clean all" and then format the drive, however the clean all command failed as well (but the command only failed after about 10+ hours).
At this point I made a boot DVD with SeaTools. When run at startup, however, SeaTools did not detect any HDD. I restarted into BIOS, and it turned out BIOS also no longer recognized the HDD. I should mention that throughout all of this, my optical drive has been detected with no problems.
I unplugged the SATA cable and power running to my HDD, plugged it back in, and my BIOS recognized the HDD again. I wanted to see if this was a fluke, so I shut down again, and when the computer booted back up, BIOS no longer recognized the HDD. Repeating the process of unplugging the connections has not gotten the HDD to show back up in BIOS again.
The last thing I did just now was to completely swap the SATA cables and power cables used by the optical drive and HDD, to check for a malfunctioning cable. The problem remains, with the optical drive detected by the HDD not detected by BIOS.
As I mentioned, this is my first build and my knowledge is somewhat limited. Is there anything else I should be trying to get my HDD to work? Is it likely that my HDD is doa? What else should I do before giving up and sending it back?
I appreciate any help, and I will provide any additional information as I am able.
