Before I start, lemme tell ya the other parts to my PC currently:

Case: Cooler Master HAF X
Vid Card: EVGA GTX 680 Superclocked
PSU: Corsair 750HX Gold Modular PSU
SSD: Samsung 470 128GB SATA 3.0/Gb's
HD1: Seagate 500GB 7200RPM HD, SATA 3.0/Gb's
HD2: Samsung Spinpoint 7200RPM HD, SATA 3.0/Gb's

Current CPU and Speed: Intel i7-920 at 2.8 GHz
Current Mobo: ASrock X58 Extreme
Current Memory: 3x4 GB (12 total) G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600

Firstly, I know what i'm gonna hear, how do I not have a i7-920 OC'ed, basically when I bought the comp, I was having all these dreams of OCing, etc... and tbh, I never felt comfortable at all OCing, and even after trying, I still really did not stick with it.

Basically, this is what I wanna do. I really don't care about OCing, I just am after something with some more kick to it for my gaming (STO, SWTOR, WoW, Borderlands, etc). Basically I'm just after a solid CPU and MoBo that I can just plug it in and let a rip and not have to OC anything. Does anyone have any solid opinions they can explain to a CPU noob like me about what to go after, why, etc? I keep hearing people going back and forth between Haswell, Ivy, etc... is AMD even in the picture, etc... Just want honest opinions. Also wouldn't mind hearing debates on stock vs custom heat sink for stock speeds on the CPU, is it anything I should consider, etc...

Budget: $450 (Note that has to include 8GB Ram)

P.S. - And please don't turn this into a you really should OC debate, I'm just not comfortable with it lol.

3570K, ASRock Z77 Extreme 3, Hyper 212 EVO, 2x4GB Gskill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

and you really should be OCing.......just kidding ;)  , though with this combo, if you did decide to OC simply change the the multiplier to 40, should have no need to play with voltages or anything else

That's what i was thinking originally, although was eying the MSI Gaming boards, but same diff really. For the types of games i play would the Killer Lan on the MSI boards make a difference or not really?

Also, bother with a second fan on the EVO?

If you do get a 3570k, do yourself a favor and overclock it a little. It is absurdly easy to do with that chip. You can get 4.0-4.3 with just a multiplier jump and leaving everything on auto. I personally like the Asrock Extreme4. It is a little more flexible as it supports SLI or CF. The Extreme3 is still a nice board as well. I doubt killer lan would make much of a difference. My rig plays WoW with ease.

Killer LAN, Can't say, but sort of doubt it, more hype from them, on the EVO the front'fan is generally sufficient but can always try a second, with that if they want color I'll often use both fans with the leds in them to brighten things up ;)

Tyvm Tradesman1, much appreciated, was kinda stuck between the haswell and Ivy debate, this pretty much settled it for me :)

Hey tradesman, just curious, could my Triple Channel memory from my old MoBo be used in the new motherboard? Say I just used two of the sticks for 8 gigs? just curious, would save me about 70 bucks, some people seem to think ya can, figured i'd ask the expert :)

Also, I have an OEM version of windows 7, Will i need to purchase a new copy with a Mobo/CPU switch?

Most definitely, DRAM doesn't know or care where it goes - there is no true 'dual channel" - 'tri' or "quad" - as long as you have enough sticks (preferably all from a single package they will run however you want - the only note to that is if taking sticks from say a 4 sticks package and only running 2-3 of them XMP might not work as it is programmed for a 4 sticks set....With your Tri set can actually use all three, will have, in effect 2 running in full dual channel and the odd ball in single
