Hey, I'm experimenting with overclocking and I'm trying first to make my ASUS BIOS stop automatically overclocking my machine. I've got an i5 3570k and adequate cooling. Are there any base settings I should reset, settings I shouldn't touch, or any general tips about overclocking with ASUS?

Also, I'd like to work in BIOS to overclock the correct way and not use the ASUS AI Suite II that comes with the mobo.

Solution
First uninstall AISuite causes more problems than it's worth. That will release bios control (software loads oc thru mbr in registry boot) and allow reset to factory, then you can play to your heart's content. P8 series by chance?

Yea, my model is a p8z77-I "Deluxe." I have unistalled the AI Suite software but sometimes my clock speed is increased over 3.4 (the default). Is there a way to manually reset to factory settings? Also, I have the current BIOS installed.

Thats the Turbo modifier kicking in. There is a switch at the top of the board u can flip to shut this off - DO NOT do this when powered up!
also, you can go into the UEFI BIOS and select Restore Factory Settings.

UEFI is the interface of your BIOS instead of the old white type blue screen. Same thing. BIOS settings will not affect OS at all. Though unistalling AISuite first is a good idea to avoid conflict or a reset of settings you just corrected. AISuite is a stubborn and annoying ah heck
