We're looking at upgrading our server battery backups. Would there be any benefit to purchasing a single APC RT 6000 over 3-4 Smart-UPS 1500's? We'll have 4 d-Link 48 port switches, 2 HP DL360's, 1 DL380, 3 Dell PE1850, 1 PE2950 III and a ML6000 tape backup unit running on the unit(s).

First thing is what is your power feed? A 6000W UPS will be a 208V unit. If you are feeding 120V then you would have to have different infrastructure. IF you have appropriate power infrastructure, and all the equipment is co-located then a single large UPS would be most efficient. You could add additional battery packs to a 6000W unit for additional run-time in the future. I believe all the equipment you have will work with 120V or 208V input.

We can have 208v installed. We'll be adding circuits either way.

One advantage of a 6000W RT is that you can change the batteries without interruption. I don't think that is possible with the small units. Either way, I highly recommend adding the network interface card (AP9630 or AP9631) to any UPS you purchase. If you don't have environmental monitoring, the AP9631 gives you some environmental monitoring. The APC SURT6000XLT includes the AP9631 in the base configuration. Remember to get an out-year budget in 3 years for a battery replacement.
