I was recently given a Dell XPS 9100, but with a problem... after troubleshooting I have concluded that the PSU has failed and is in need or replacement. The old PSU was 525w and I was thinking of putting a 650-800w in. Question is, can I just swap a new one in or does Dell use some funky proprietary PSU? (Size, screw hole placement)

The specs of the system are:

I7-960 3.2g Quad Core
16g Ram 1333
2Tb HD
BD-Rom Combo Drive
HD 6670 Turks Graphics (will be replaced soon)

Here could be small problem

PLease open side panel and check your exact power supply model number, is it the same as this one:

I will make problem connector in BOLD

Qty. Connector
(See table for picture and description)
1 24-pin ATX mainboard power
1 8-pin ATX mainboard power
1 6-pin PCI Express (PCIe) power
1 6 + 2-pin PCI Express (PCIe) power
5 15-pin serial ATA (SATA) power
1 4-pin Berg Floppy what is that?

Save me some time - is XPS 9100 still have a floppy?

So, just provide your model number to be sure.

I'll check when I get home for the model number, but this system did not come with a floppy drive.

Thanks
MK

Then there is no problem, I did not look last time I had PSU in my hands, I think.

I checked the model # and it is the same as you posted. It does indeed have one 3.5" floppy power connector, been awhile since i have seen one of those... or used one.

The mother board had the standard 24pin plugged in and a 8pin plugged in near the cpu. Along with a bunch of sata connectors. It also had a 6+2 connector which I assume was for PCI_E graphics card. (not used in this model of XPS)

Bought a new PSU from Best Buy (had a few gift cards) and put it in. It was 850watt but it was smaller than the original PSU from Dell, go figure. Anyways the screw holes lined up fine, there was a small gap being that it has a smaller form factor than the original, but I dont care. Anyways I hit the power button and all the fans spun up fullspeed and nothing. I found out the PSU wasnt just the only thing (the MB needed replacement but got one off Ebay for $50) after that it works like a charm. I love this thing. All in all it cost me 50bux and its a tank compared to the HP AMD 64 x2.
