Afternoon All,

Ive had this problem for about 3/4 weeks now and im not sure as to where to go with it, so i thought i would come here in order to grab some advice as to what to do.

3/4 weeks ago i was getting a message at the bottom of my screen stating that my version of windows wasn't genuine and that i needed to verify it, i thought oh okay no problem.

I followed the information it gave and went to verify it with microsoft, however the download that it gave me failed to work, ive tried it many times now to no avail. It said that a previous windows update may be the cause so i went to remove the update that it stated and the update was there.

not too long after my entire computer crashed, thinking it was just coincidence i ignored it, however ever since then whenever i attempt to verify my windows the download fails, the steps it give me doesn't work and then ultimately it crashes on me.

I'm also now experiencing random computer freezes which last for about 10 seconds, followed by a beep and then my computer works again.

I've hoped ive given enough information, please ask away if you need anything more to help me with this problem.

Thanks.

Solution
The freezes and random crashes, on top of the 'not genuine' thing would point me in the direction of a full reinstall.

Using your current key, on the existing hard drive. No expense involved.

That will eliminate the OS install as being the problem.

I got the copy of windows when i purchased my computer from cyberpower so im almost 100% certain it wont be a fake copy, i really dont want to have to do a fresh install on a new HDD, that could prove costly in both time and money if it doesnt solve it.

I would reinstall Windows. It is easy to do and doesn't take too long. Also fake Windows activation malware is not exactly uncommon so I'd be wary of that. You shouldn't need to download anything to activate Windows.

If all your stuff is stored on that one hard drive, you are one failed drive or accidental deletion away from losing everything anyway.
Dropbox or an external drive and backup your irreplaceable data.
