Disk drive detected but won't detect the disk

So the disk drive is detected in my computer, but I can't do anything with it. It won't detect any of the disks I put in it, and when I right click on it, it freezes my computer and I have to restart.

I also noticed that it wasn't plugged in the other day, and when I went to plug it in, other programs started not working, such as iTunes and my computer booted up more slowly than before.

Thanks for any help on how to solve this

Did you compare your driver version with the version that the manufacturer says is the most recent for the drive in question...

Check to make sure that your driver for it is up to date.

I tried going into device manager and checking to update the drivers, but it says there all up to date

Did you compare your driver version with the version that the manufacturer says is the most recent for the drive in question? Just because your computers "says so" doesn't necessarily mean it is right. You could also try deleting/uninstalling the disc drive from the device manager interface and re-installing it.
