Building my first gaming PC and looking at some G.SKILL sniper series @2133 but fearing compatibility issues with the 4670k CPU that I want to use. the voltage for this RAM is 1.6 volts but the I5 memory controller is around 1.5 volts. What problems would I have if I built my PC with this RAM?
Thanks

Solution
Yes they'll be fine, with freq 2133 and up, 1.6 - 1.65 DRAM is no problem as it also generally takes an increase in the MC's (memory controllers) voltage, I've run 32GB of the Snipers in a few SB and IB builds with no problem

Fuck...the sniper series wasn't supported but this RAM was, G.SKILL RIPJAWS Z Series 4x4GB @2133 (F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH). But the voltage is still higher then the maximum voltage for the I5. The two MBs I am considering are the MSI MPOWER and the GIGABYTE Z87X-OC. Also is there any performance difference between 2 stick modules and 4 stick modules?

There is no magical voltage number for the i5 the i7 or whatever..Wherever you heard that, they are wrong, 1.5 is the suggested voltage for stock CPU setting...if OCing at all it goes out the window, big thing is to keep DRAM voltage and MC voltage in a relative balance...as far as the QVL (supported DRAM list) it's all but worthless, read my info piece here:

Thanks for reply, its defiantly a good read. Now this may be a dumb question but once I get my PC built I can check/tweak voltage and speeds in BIOS right?

So this set-up shouldn't be a problem then...

I5 4670k
MSI MPOWER
G.Skill Sniper Series RAM 2x8GB @2133

Is their any difference between using 2 stick modules and 4 stick modules?

Its my first build and its all a little overwhelming..I just need a hug and someone to tell me its going to be OK. lol

First the DRAM best to go 2x8GB if you want 16GB (less stress on the MC (memory controller)...next CPU is socket 1150 so mobo also has to be, you mentioned a Gigabyte and an MSI mobo, would go with the GigaByte, MSI has poor QC (might get DOA or failure in short period of time (that's why I won't build with them)...if not happy w/ GB offerings look to ASRock (the Z87 Extreme 4 is very good) or the Asus lineup. That's a couple quick hugs, more questions will cost you ;)

Your CPU would fit in that. So would your RAM. I'm going to say, "it will be OK" but still.... no hug.

The Gigabyte Z87X-OC is a real possibility, I also found the ASUS Maximus VI Hero to have some nice features for a reasonable price. I'm still undecided but I think it will come down to who has the better customer service/warranty.
